Safety and Security Habits for Educators

Safety and Security Habits (SASH) for Educators: A Comprehensive One-Day Course

This intensive one-day course is structured into two main segments, each designed to equip educators with essential safety and security skills for both personal and professional environments.

Part 1: Foundations of Personal Safety

In this segment, participants will delve into practical strategies and concepts aimed at enhancing personal safety in various settings. The curriculum emphasizes the importance of minimizing vulnerability to potential threats through:

  • Basic safety principles for navigating public spaces and managing online interactions.
  • Effective tactics for maintaining safety while traveling and participating in large gatherings.
  • Strategies for securing one’s home and leveraging the environment to mitigate risks.

Participants will also learn about the significance of maintaining a heightened state of readiness and employing environmental scanning techniques to reduce risk levels and enhance situational awareness.

Part 2: Translating Personal Safety Skills into the Classroom

The focus shifts to applying the personal safety habits learned in Part 1 to the educational setting. This includes addressing:

  • Classroom safety concerns and enhancing safety protocols during emergencies such as evacuations, lockdowns, and sheltering in place.
  • Specific strategies for responding to active shooter situations and bomb threats.

The course also covers the school’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), providing staff with actionable insights and practical skills to improve their effectiveness and awareness in emergency situations.

Comprehensive Course Materials

Participants will receive a 144-page handbook, which serves as a valuable resource encompassing additional strategies on digital safety, navigating public areas, attending large events, and managing reactions in crowded situations.

This course is designed to empower educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain safety and security in a variety of scenarios, ensuring a safer environment for themselves and their students.

If schools were permitted to have just one training, this is the one!

This training will help to raise test scores for your students, decrease discipline challenges, and improve classroom rapport. You will learn how to meet students where they are and lead them where they need to be, capture attention, and promote deeper learning.
